WANTED: Bangkok travel guide & street map
M and I will be traveling to Bangkok in July. It's our first time, and we're excited. I'm looking forward to street food and muay thai. She's looking forward to making me carry gunny sacks of shoes and dresses.
We booked a couple of cheap AirAsia tickets back in February, but have yet to plan anything else (yes, it's my fault). I'm looking into budget hotels now. Preferably something that's really close to the Skytrain / MRT, has a swimming pool, is not too far from a 7-Eleven, and is in either Sukhumvit / Siam.
In the meantime, do you have any good travel guide books and street maps which we could borrow (or buy)? We're making full use of the Internet, but nothing beats something you can touch, hold, flip, fold & tear (ok, maybe not the last bit).

I'm so glad you know that you'll be shopping alot, and I know it's not your favourite, so I'll try to make it minimal (*highlights 'try'*).
You plan and manage things really well, I'm sure our small holiday won't be a problem, hun. *wink*
Yes, get a street map. I can already see us arguing cause I, Melissa Lai, am a lady, and hereby admit that I suck at reading maps! (I got better though, after you left me alone on this god forsaken island!)
Budget hotel with a swimming pool? I highly doubt that lah. Not in Bangkok at least. But it IS a shopping haven and I have a feeling you'll be doing a lot more shopping than you bargained for!
Here’s a DIY travel website,
http://www.tour-bangkok-legacies.com/
Hotels and locations, places of interest and maps to these places are there. You can print these maps out as well though the areas covered are small.
